An Offer From a Gentleman - Julia Quinn
(Family Services Librarian Recommendation)
As a fan of anything related to books set in the 1800s, dukes and duchesses, or just regency themes in general, I was happily surprised when I saw my favorite book from the Bridgerton Series is in stock here at Woodward Public Library!
If you’re in the mood for a feel good romance, I think that Julia Quinn’s An Offer From a Gentleman is a fun pick. Think Cinderella, but with more banter, and more heart!
Sophie Beckett, our quietly determined heroine, has all the warmth and grit of someone you can’t help rooting for. Her life isn’t easy dealing with a wicked stepmother and stepsisters, especially when they take over when her father passes, demoting her to a servant. And when she crosses paths with the handsome Benedict Bridgerton at his family’s masquerade ball, sparks fly!
Benedict is the second‑eldest brother of the infamous Bridgerton family, with an artistic soul and a slightly stubborn streak, and the chemistry between the two is instant and charming. Yet just as the clock strikes twelve, she disappears, only leaving her glove as proof she was even there. As time passes they finally cross paths again… but will they remember one another?
The masquerade ball scene alone is worth the read! It’s the kind of moment that makes you smile without realizing it. In my opinion what makes this book shine isn’t just the romance (though it’s most definitely swoony in all the right ways), but instead the feeling of found family, because sometimes family isn’t just who you’re related to- but who you love, and who makes you feel loved. Bridgerton is also a pretty popular TV series on Netflix as well! And the newest season? It’s all about this very book! (Maybe someone can tell me how it is?)
If you love stories about second chances, unexpected connections, and love that grows even when life gets messy, this one is a warm, comforting treat. Perfect for fans of fairy‑tale retellings, slow‑burn romance, or anyone who just wants a book that leaves them feeling a little lighter!
