Librarian's Book Suggestions
Here are some books that are highly recommended by our Woodward Library Librarians! (Updated often!)
Scottish Isle Mystery Series - Lucy Connelly

An American doctor wants to forget her old life in Seattle as an emergency doctor and moves to Scotland to be a town doctor, and then learns she is also the coroner. Enjoy her adventures at solving murders with the town constable. In the first book, her first corpse disappears before she is able to autopsy him. The second book takes place in a castle during a major snowstorm. Friends and families have gathered for a few days before a wedding when someone is found dead in a turrets. No one can leave because of the storm and the wedding will go on.
In the third book a murder takes place around Christmas time. As friends gather for a concert being put on by locals who are becoming famous, the following morning the lead singer is found dead by the doctor, Emilia McRoy. Travel around the Sea Isle town as Emilia seeks to find answers. In the fourth book the murder takes place on the first time newly furbished train that travels between towns. On the train there are performers telling the history of the community. The victim is one the town’s accountant who is not liked because any investor who invests with this person loses lots of money.
Meet Emilia’s new friends who feel like family. Each book is a fast, enjoyable read for anyone who reads cozy mysteries. After reading these four books, you will have to wait until August for the next installment in the series.

Two Kinds of Stranger - Steve Cavanagh

Thrillers typically aren't my cup of tea as books to read in my free time, but Steve Cavanagh's Two Kinds of Stranger blew that thought out of the water for me!
Ellie is a girl that's made her job influencing random acts of kindness to people on social media, anyone can tell her life is great...until during one of her livestreams she catches her husband in love with her best friend. Depressed and utterly heartbroken, she hides away until one day she find someone struggling on the subway. Unable to not turn a blind eye on a poor patron, she helps him out. Which is exactly what he was hoping for. Instead, she’s pulled into a murder investigation where the evidence is stacked too neatly against her.
Enter Eddie Flynn, the con‑man‑turned‑lawyer who only takes cases when he believes the client is truly innocent. The only one who believes Ellie's terrified accounts are Eddie and his team, and they're determined to get to the bottom of this. The book follows Eddie trying to untangle a case where nothing is straightforward, motives are murky, and you also get chapters from the perspective of the chilling antagonist that is manipulating events from the shadows. The tension comes not from gore or shock value, but from the realization that the crimes won't stop at just Ellie.
